A great middle-ground wood, it burns hot and provides mild smooth smoke flavour. Stronger than the apple or cherry and a little lighter than hickory. Works well on fish and veggies.
Furtado Farms Cookwood Logs are minimum one year seasoned in the great outdoors. They’re cut into 12″ lengths and split into a diameter of approximately 2″–4”. Bundles are available in either 10 kg or 20 kg bundles. These logs are perfect for offset smokers, barrel smokers, charcoal and wood grills as well as pizza ovens. With a lower moisture content than Furtado Farm Chunks, they burn hotter and longer producing maximum heat output, while providing plenty of smoke and flavour in the process. They’re also great for starting a fire — burning logs down creating 100% natural coals for grilling over.
Furtado Farms Cookwood is locally sourced, hand selected and processed. None of the Furtado Farms products are kiln-dried like most of the others — particularly big-name brands. Kiln-drying is a high heat oven that wood is placed into for many days, this draws out nearly 100% of the woods moisture and kills off any insects in the wood. This in turn also draws out the flavour and smell that’s associated with the woods natural moisture content.
